Advanced Clinician Scientist Program for Comprehensive Neuroscience (PROMISE)

The BMFTR-funded program PROMISE is a structured qualification program for Advanced Clinician Scientists that fosters long-term and sustainable career trajectories. It supports physicians who, alongside clinical duties, engage in basic, translational or clinical research within the interdisciplinary field of neuroscience.

The PROMISE Advanced Clinician Scientist Program is part of the Medical & Clinician Scientist Program (MCSP) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). It aims to support clinician scientists with active clinical duties and a strong research profile in neuroscience by offering a structured path to long-term academic careers in clinical research and leadership.

Selected fellows get protected 50 % research time, independent research programs, lab and office space, priority access to infrastructure, and rotation options within collaborating institutes. They receive mentoring and individualized qualification support, with the goal of preparing them for permanent leadership positions, including professorships or equivalent roles. The program integrates clinical research with basic science across neurology and related disciplines, emphasizing translational work that benefits patient care.

PROMISE connects to a broad neuroscience network (e.g., Stroke and Dementia Research, Neuroimmunology, and other LMU and Max-Planck partners) and includes strategic career development, interim reviews, and access to a nationwide ACS network. Applications require board certification (or equivalence), strong research achievements, and a clinical position at LMU Hospital.
