Mechanisms of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease (m/f)

Located on the biomedical campus of Ludwig-Maximilians University (ranked as the top University in Germany according to Times Higher Education World University Rankings) the Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research (ISD) ispart of a vibrant research community and a major partner in the DFG-funded Excellence Cluster “SyNergy”. Our group is interested in identifying and functionally characterizing singlegene defects and genetic risk loci associated with stroke.

The project:
The project aims at functionally characterizing a new risk locus for strokeby experiments in a new mouse model for cerebral small vessel disease. The project will involve biochemical, ultrastructural (ATUM, FIB-SEM), and experimental work in mice. The project is funded through a multinational EU Horizon2020 project (Coordinator: M. Dichgans) and funds from the German Center for Neurodegenerative diseases (DZNE).

Your profile:
The ideal candidate should hold a PhD or equivalent in Biochemistry or (Cell) Biology. A prerequisite is previous hands-on experience with histology and animal models and biochemical techniques. Suitable candidates should be highly motivated with an intrinsic interest in disease mechanisms and cutting-edge technology.

Position:
The position will be in an international, multidisciplinary, and open-door atmosphere, with access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities including in-house animal facilities fully equipped with surgery rooms, microscopes (ATUM, FIB-SEM, 2-photon [7P],confocal, light-sheet, micro-dissection, among others), a behavioral test unit and a post-operative care unit (see www.isd-muc.de).
The duration is 2 years with performance review and possibility of extension. Salary will be based on German public employment guidelines (TV-L).
