SyNergy has started !

Munich Cluster for Systems NeurologySyNergy – the „Munich Cluster for Systems Neurology“ has received the „Go ahead“ from the reviewers in June 2012. We want to promote integrative research into a broad range of neurological diseases, with the aim to improve pathomechanistic understanding and eventually therapeutic options. The central focus is to foster intense collaboration amongst 25 principal investigators and 14 associate investigators across the traditional boundaries of neurodegenerative, -inflammatory and –vascular diseases (see executive summary of the cluster). more

Coordinator of the Cluster is Christian Haass (LMU)
Co-Coordinator is Thomas Misgeld (TUM)

EMBO reports: The 2012 Eibsee meeting

embo-reports

The 2012 Eibsee meeting on 'Cellular Mechanisms of Neurodegeneration' addressed the need to integrate research on classical neurodegenerative mechanisms with investigations that relate to the immunological, glial and vascular sequels that accompany and often propagate neuronal injury. Future directions have been discussed towards establishing 'systems neurology' as a new integrated research field. more

Open Position: Full Professorship (W3) of Vascular Biology (Chair)

The Faculty of Medicine of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich, Germany, invites applications for a Full Professorship (W3) of Vascular Biology (Chair) commencing as soon as possible. The Chair is financed through the Vascular Dementia Research Foundation and the Excellence Cluster Munich Cluster for Systems Neurology (SyNergy). more

Open Positions: Clinician Scientists

The Clinician-Scientist Program of the DFG-sponsored Excellence Cluster “Munich Cluster for Systems Neurology (SyNergy)” will offer young clinician-scientists the opportunity to efficiently combine residency training in Neurology with an active research program in neurodegeneration, cerebro-vascular disease, or neuroinflammation. more

Press Release: How the brain folds to fit

During fetal development of the mammalian brain, the cerebral cortex undergoes a marked expansion in surface area in some species, which is accommodated by folding of the tissue in species with most expanded neuron numbers and surface area. more
